So I'm at school now! It's pretty unfathomable to me to be honest. All my life I've said that I would be going to BYU. It's now strange to know I'm here. I'm nervous; I can't lie about that one. I think everyone reminding me that I need to study as definitely urged that nervousness along, as well as the sheer enormity of the incoming freshman class. I do hope that I can do my very best. My course load isn't necessarily rigorous, but I am taking 17 credit hours. It does help that several are music classes, which really shouldn't be an issue.
One of the oddest things about being here at college is just living on my own. The lack of authority is just strange! A lot of kids at college say it's very liberating. I say it's strange. I'm not used to having no one tell me what to do or where to go. But I think I'm doing fine with it. And as it turns out, my whole apartment is doing fine with it. As one of my roommates came home from work last night at 1:30 he said that the area around our residence halls was still packed with students. I'm glad I wasn't one of those students. I like sleep. And I like not sleeping in until noon. Consequently I choose a more conservative bedtime.
I think my favorite places on BYU campus so far are the library and the music building practice rooms. It sounds completely ridiculous, but I love the quiet. I'm not necessarily being quiet in the practice rooms, but I still love just being alone in there. It's nice. I'm also grateful I came down to Provo as early as I did. It was very fortunate of me to be able to get things all set up before any of my roommates got there.
Well, that's about it for now. I will probably post some pictures of my dorm as soon as I take them. But until then, keep hoping I get in the blogging habit again!

Yippee! So glad to see a new post Daniel. I am sure you are doing just great without anyone telling you what to do.
I agree with you about the library and music rooms. I LOVED the quiet and unlike my roommate freshman year, I like to go to bed at a reasonable hour and wake up early. I guess I am still that way though so college had nothing to do with that. I would love fall when the air would be a little crisp. Nothing beats walking across campus with cool fall air, lost in thought. Delicious. I'm jealous.
I shore hope that you have fun at BYU!!! I think you will do great things havent really changed here except there is pretty much no priests courm any more!!! Its kida sad but oh well Garrett and I will both be 16 in 3 months!!!
Have fun at School
I remember being shocked at the sudden transformation from life at home to being on my own. I wouldn't leaving for college was liberating either. I found there was more continuity with my former life than disparity --and that was comforting. I planted a vegetable garden in the field next to my apartment and kept living as I had in Idaho.
On top of all the other advice that has made you nervous I'd add--don't take it all too seriously. Enjoy the moment!
So glad to hear from you!!! And glad things are going well! I never took any music classes in college but I used to love to book a piano study room and just go and play where I knew that no one was listening!
I think you will do great down there! You have set such great goals for yourself...and I have NO DOUBT that you will be successful! I know you can be!!!
I am proud of you!
Thanks for the update. My guess is that you will find college no harder than HS as long as you keep on top of things. I have no doubt that you will be completely successful. I am glad that you have had a chance to get things settled before school starts. Keep up the good work. I love you.
I agree Daniel. I had counted Rick's vote as about 10 regular votes in my mind.
Thanks for updating! Now I need to update. I will also try to start a habit. I hope you have fun down at college! Love ya!
Daniel,
I can't belive you are old enough to be at the Y. I can remember you when Bee would watch you. Where has the time gone.
We are so happy for you , and can't wait for the next big step !!
